State Sales Manager—Texas K-12

Job Summary

The Texas State Sales Manager will train, develop and manage a sales team of independent representatives to achieve the company’s performance and revenue objectives. The manager will also help supervise a team of locally based part-time, per-diem consultants who support the representatives and conduct teacher training. The manager will optimize Proclamation 2019 (middle school ELA) while setting up the team for success in Proclamation 2020 (high school ELA).

The candidate must be comfortable having high level conversations with district and school level decision-makers and be able to inspire confidence in partnerships over many years.

The manager may also be responsible for demonstrating the product and conducting committee presentations. The State Sales Manager is also accountable for pipeline management and expense budgets analysis. This position requires extensive overnight travel.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead, motivate, support, and manage a mixed team independent reps and part-time, per-diem consultants, keeping up to date on their activities through weekly one-on-ones and team meetings, working with them in the field, and providing ongoing communication to the VP of sales;
  • Demonstrate exceptional knowledge of EMC offerings, including print and digital;
  • Create and maintain accurate data on educational entities—local and state-- and use such information to assure effective practices through the sales process;
  • Develop and maintain excellent customer relationships while providing superior service to individuals and institutions to promote loyalty to EMC and its products and services;
  • Work closely with Marketing to ensure we are current with market trends and the competition;
  • Actively participate in team and national sales meetings;
  • Ensure that all teachers, schools, and districts are serviced before, during, and after the sale;
  • Use and enforce the use of Salesforce for all territory management activities and reporting functions;
  • Implement sales strategies to maximize sales efforts
  • Provide regular reports and forecasts to the VP of Sales;
  • Work collaboratively with all functional areas of the company to achieve yours, your team, and EMC’s goals and objectives.

Education and Experience Qualifications

  • 4 year college degree (Bachelor’s Degree) is required
  • 5-8 years successful field-based K-12 sales experience
  • 3+ years sales management experience preferred
  • ELA and Computer Science sales experience a bonus
  • Must live within the assigned territory of Texas

Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrated sales ability with track record of sales success in Texas
  • Good working knowledge of the 6-12 market, including competition, state trends, and opportunities
  • Ability to build strong and productive working relationships with customers including ability to gain and maintain trust
  • Demonstrated skills in leadership, management and sales forecasting
  • Experience with Salesforce.com
  • Excellent presentation skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent time management and relationship management skills
  • Ability to recruit, hire, train, and manage people and help them maximize their potential
  • Desire to grow within the organization, learn new markets, new product categories, and new sales – marketing approaches
  • Requires extensive overnight travel
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record
